The best last minute call I’ve ever made

Laos by motorcycle!

Office, end of November 2018
Manager: Sorry guys, no X-Mas leaves this year. Backlog is too much.
Crew: …Office, beginning of December
Manager: We all have to take two weeks of leaves in order to be on budget.
Crew: Are you sure we can book stuff? Message was quite different last week …
Manager: Go ahead.

This was usually the time I started dreaming about buying a motorcycle, said that I had no experience at all… and I reminded that my friend Guglia organizes mototours…

RRRIIING

Guglia: Hi Cino, how you doing?

Me: Everything is fine, what about you?

Guglia: I’m OK too.

Me: Listen, I was told today that I’ll have some X-Mas leaves and I was wondering… are you organizing a mototour?

Guglia: Yes, Laos, do you want to join?

Me: Laos, it’s far far away, but I’d like to. Keep in mind I can only be a passenger on a moto since I do not have any license.

Guglia: We have room, are you in?

Me (trying to figure out if it was wise to go on a 1.500 km motorcycle ride in Laos): I’m in.

The actual call was a bit longer, without any substancial differences. I received a mail with all details from Guglia. He departed from Bologna together with other people while I took off from Milano and we had to meet in Bangkok. I risked to lose Moscow connection to Bangkok due to a technical issue and Aeroflot was sending me back home; eventually, they found me a seat on another plane which was compatible with my connection in Bangkok to Chiang Rai.

Moreover, I traveled wearing my motorcycle protective gear since there was no room in my luggage (Guglia said: 1 backpack, no more). I arrived very tired to the bed and breakfast, luckily it was perfect starting from the name: Sleepy House.
